Journeys are captured through music
My music is no different.
In it, you will hear the ebb and flow that is my life - the highs and lows of the sadness and joy and the fire of the perseverance through every storm.
People always wonder...
How did you become a composer?
And the question should really be - How did you commit to being a composer?
I trusted that my passion would guide my purpose. Through the racism, sexism and plethora of other uncomfortable and discouraging instances, I let my love for music ground me and guide me through the “Your music is boring” or “You’ll never have a career because it’s clear you’ve never studied formal composition” and many others.
There were many nights that I was overwhelmed with doubt and self-destructive thoughts. But there were moments where it almost seemed as if my love for music and my love for composition was simultaneously healing me and shielding me in real time from those painful experiences.
My name is B.E. Boykin - welcome to my true story.
While the journey to calling myself a composer wasn’t easy, I’m thrilled because it’s not over and because there’s more healing to do and share, and with that, comes more music.
Each day is a beautiful reminder that like my music, I can live out loud and just BE.
